CVCA JR. HIGH WRESTLING
Parents:
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy offers a complete Jr. High School for Seventh and Eight Graders with
athletic teams for boys soccer, football, wrestling, basketball, and track. CVCA Jr. High Wrestling competes
as a member of the Principal's Athletic Conference. The Jr. High Wrestling Season begins in early November
and concludes the first week of February. The team will compete in several all day tournaments on Saturdays
and a few weekday evening matches throughout the season. The Jr. High Wrestling team practices everyday after
school from 3:30-5:30 PM. There will also be a few practices held over Christmas Break.
Annually CVCA hosts a Middle School Dual Tournament on the third Saturday in January.
Parents are encouraged to help with concessions and hospitality room. For any questions

The CVCA Jr. High Wrestling team is coached by Matt Hickin. Coach Hickin is a 2009 graduate and former varsity wrestler for CVCA. He has coached for seveal years with the Youth and Jr. High Club team Ohio Lightning, and now takes over as the Head Coach of our Jr. High Program. Matt brings a great deal of enthusiasm and a tremendous heart for the Lord to our Jr. High Wrestling team.
History:
Junior high wrestling at CVCA has produced some of the greatest high school wrestlers in the history of the program. Over 20 CVCA Jr. High Wrestlers have gone on to place at the High School State Tournament for CVCA (several of which who started wrestling for the first time as 7th graders at CVCA). High School State Champions Harry Lester, Andy Vogel, Brett Smilek, Matt Smilek, and John Weakley all came up through the Jr. High Wrestling program at CVCA. Since the Jr. High State Wrestling Tournament was started in 1999, the Jr. High Wrestling program has produced Countless Jr. High State Qualifiers, and Nine Jr. High State Placers including Four Jr. High State Champions!
